Winkler Bakery in Old Salem Reviews
This bakery is one part of the old Salem attractions. I think it's more museum and gift shops than a bakery itself, but I really love this place, the display part brings me some vintage nostalgia feelings. The lady at the entrance and the cashier dressed in old costumes, and the lady had a really warming smile. I didn't get any bakery there this time, they look kinda sweet, but would love to try some other time.
Cute place to check out for baked goods, rocking chairs and more. The staff lovely and the place is quaint. If you have a sweet tooth, this is your spot. Nearby there's a place you can pump water like they did waaaay back in the day. It was fun. Enjoy!
Yes to sugar cake. They have a great helpful and friendly bunch working there. I have definitely been here as a child during one of my father's eastern United States "Chevy Chase" style American vacations! History, food, battlefields, antiquing... You get the idea. Old Salem is worth a visit if you're near Charlotte or within 1 and 1/2 hours away. It's worth the trip and DO NOT MISS Winkler Bakery. Ask questions if you're a baker, they don't mind sharing baking secrets.
This is a really cool spot to visit to see a piece of history. I was on a Hurrication up north, so I was trying to do as much as possible in as little time as I had. This place was recommended to me, and the following day I found myself driving through Old Salem. It was very quiet around town so initially my party was the only group here. The smell alone with make a mark and trigger a craving for a loaf! We ended up with a fresh, hot raisin bread loaf. It comes with a huge scoop of icing over it. The four of us devoured it before we left, so yes, it tastes great! This is a must visit for history buffs and bread lovers.
They don't have any baked goods that are gluten free but they have toffee! The bakery is in a beautiful old building in Old Salem and the cashier is dressed in her traditional garb. It's definitely worth stopping in to see how this place originated.
